Amazon FBA Labeling: Get It Right Every Time
Incorrect labeling is the #1 reason Amazon rejects FBA shipments. Here's every label requirement you need to know.
FNSKU (Fulfillment Network Stock Keeping Unit)
- Required on every individual unit
- Must cover existing manufacturer UPC/EAN barcode
- Minimum size: 1" x 2" (1" x 3" recommended)
- Must be scannable at 6 inches
- Print on adhesive label, not directly on product
- Use thermal printer (inkjet smudges in warehouses)
Case Labels (FBA Box ID)
- Required on every shipping box
- Print from Seller Central shipping workflow
- Place on flat side of box (not seams)
- One label per box minimum (two recommended)
- Include "SOLD" or "MIX" designation
- Box content barcode (2D) for faster check-in
Pallet Labels
For LTL/FTL shipments:
- 4 labels per pallet (one on each side)
- Include FBA shipment ID
- Must be visible and scannable
- Place at 40–48 inches from floor
- Don't cover with stretch wrap
Suffocation Warning Labels
Required on all poly bags with a 5-inch or larger opening:
"WARNING: To avoid danger of suffocation, keep this plastic bag away from babies and children. Do not use this bag in cribs, beds, carriages, or playpens. This bag is not a toy."
- Minimum 24-point font
- Must be printed on the bag or on a separate label
- Required in English at minimum
Expiration Date Labels
- Required on all perishable and consumable products
- Format: MM-DD-YYYY or MM-YYYY
- Must be visible without opening packaging
- Font size: minimum 36-point
- Cannot be covered by other labels or barcodes
"Sold As Set" Labels
- Required on multi-pack/bundle items
- Text: "Sold as Set — Do Not Separate"
- Must be clearly visible on outer packaging
- Prevents Amazon from splitting bundles
Common Labeling Mistakes
- FNSKU doesn't match product listing (wrong ASIN)
- Labels placed over seams (unscannable)
- Missing suffocation warning on poly bags
- Expiration date in wrong format
- Using inkjet labels that smudge
- Forgetting "Sold as Set" on bundles
- Pallet labels covered by stretch wrap
